When I arrived in the USA over thirty years ago, I was already aware of the country’s incredible beauty, but I had no idea how diverse it was. Since then I visited about 75% of national parks, the majority of large cities, and took a lot of road trips near and far, but my list of places to visit keeps growing. With every discovery, something new catches my attention.

23 Reasons to Visit The United States of America:

1. The spectacular and incredibly diverse landscape

Without a doubt, the natural beauty climbs to the top of the reasons to visit the USA. I do not know of any other country that has all the wonders of the world in one territory.

Mountain ranges, sandy deserts, rocky deserts, mighty rivers, glaciers, geysers, boiling muds, volcanos, sandy beaches, rocky beaches, marshes, caves, prairies, wetlands. I there anything else that nature has created that cannot be found in America?

2. Unique American flora

Similarly, American flora is as unique as the country’s landscape. This will probably come as a surprise to many that the USA, being among the topmost industrialized nations, ranks the 4th as the most forested country in the world (after Russia, Brazil, and Canada).

Forests make about 30% of the US land. And how unique some of those forests are. There is no other place on Earth like Giant Forest in Sequoia National Park, home to half of the Earth’s tallest trees.

Other American unique trees can be found in Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest in California. These pines are a millennium older than the Giant Sequoias. Many of them are well over 2,000 years old including the “Methuselah” tree in Schulman Grove, about 4,770 years old. See a full list of remarkable trees found in America here.

3. Wildlife viewing

Your chances of seeing wildlife are greater in America than in many other developed countries. The US is home to a dazzling array of wildlife, many of which have found refuge in protected national areas.

The United States has enacted and implemented some of the world’s most effective wildlife conservation laws. The North American Wildlife Conservation Model is the only one of its kind in the world. Check out this list of American iconic animals here.

4. America’s national parks

The U.S. national parks system is considered the most geographically diverse and the most spectacular in the world. To preserve the beauty of the land for generations to come, in 1872 Yellowstone National Park was established as the world’s first national park.

Today it is recognized by the United Nations as a biosphere reserve and a world heritage site for its worldwide significance of natural and cultural resources. The idea of national parks was born in the USA and it is still going strong. Here is a list of the most popular national parks in America.

5. America’s state parks

Furthermore, with over 10000 parks, the state park system in the USA is even more impressive than its national parks system and it also contributes to the nation’s environment, heritage, health, and economy. State parks are operated by the state government. They are often located in close proximity to urban locations.

They provide vast recreational opportunities like boating, swimming, hiking, rock climbing, cross country skiing, and even golfing. Here is the list of the most impressive state parks in the USA.

6. Wide range of recreational opportunities

The United States enjoys all seasons and therefore is a great tourist destination year-round. The variety of recreational activities range from cave repelling to mountain climbing and anything in between. Hiking, kayaking, yachting, swimming, golfing, biking, skiing, and snowmobiling are always available somewhere in the United States.

7. Wheelchair accessibility

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires that all public buildings, private buildings built after 1993 (including hotels, restaurants, theaters, and museums) and public transit be wheelchair accessible.

Many national and some state parks and recreation areas have wheelchair-accessible paved, graded-dirt, or boardwalk trails. Some car-rental agencies, such as Budget and Hertz, offer hand-controlled vehicles and vans with wheelchair lifts at no extra charge.

8. Vibrant American Cities

American cities may not be as remarkable as those of the Old World, but they display distinctly American characteristics. Many of them, like Orlando or Los Angeles, have big tourist attractions that draw visitors, but others stand as an attraction on their own. New York City constantly ranks in the top ten most visited cities in the world.

Other internationally popular cities include Miami, Las Vegas, Washington D.C, and San Francisco. The mix of cultures, great food, outstanding music venues, excellent shopping, and modern architecture is what visitors are coming to enjoy in those cities. Here are ten top must-see cities in America.

With approximately 35000 active museums in the USA, there is one for every interest. Many of the American museums belong to the top of their kind in the world. Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. is the world’s largest research and museum complex, with 19 museums and galleries.

Furthermore, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City is the largest museum in the Western Hemisphere. Its European paintings include works by Botticelli, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Degas, Rodin, and others. Check the list of Best United States Museums here.

10. American music

The United States has the world’s largest music market. The country’s most internationally renowned genres are jazz, blues, country, bluegrass, rock, rhythm and blues, soul, hip hop, and more. Furthermore, good music is played in many local bars across the country.

Here are the top places to visit for music lovers:

New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans is the birthplace of jazz which was cultivated in the early 20th century before it spread across the country. It is home to a historical and cutting-edge jazz scene on Bourbon Street and around Frenchman Street. You can listen to class acts at some legendary establishments such as Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro, Blue Nile, and Palm Court Jazz Cafe.

11. Disney parks

Another popular reason why people visit America is Disney. Born in American and now known as the “Happiest Place on Earth”, Disney parks awe and entertain visitors of all ages. They are among the most visited theme parks in the world. In Anaheim, California, Disneyland Park and Disneyland California Adventure Park make up the Disneyland Resort. Orlando, Florida, is home to Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, Disney Hollywood Studios, and the Animal Kingdom.

Orlando also claims two Disney water parks: Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. It seems like there is no end to the popularity of these resorts.

12. Old West Charm

The cowboy way of life may have changed since the days of the Wild West, but it is still alive and well in towns and areas across America. As a result, many foreign visitors are looking to experience western charm not found in their countries. Here are ten top Wilds West towns in America.

13. Variety of cultures

Another reason to visit America? Due to its immense size and diverse heritage, the U.S. has one of the most complex cultural identities in the world. Millions of immigrants from all over the globe have journeyed to America since the Europeans colonized the land.

The blending of cultural backgrounds and ethnicities in America led to the country becoming known as a “melting pot. Many cultures have large enough communities to hold one or more cultural festivals each year.

14. Variety of cuisine

Of course, US cuisine also reflects the history of the United States. As a result of cultural diversity, even in small towns in America, you can find a variety of ethnic food including Mexican, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Greek, Indian, just to mention the most popular ones.

In large cities like New York, you can eat your way around the world without leaving Manhattan. There’s so much choice in the USA that even if you have allergies, you can dine well and at a reasonable price.

15. Consumer-friendly business hours

The United States is one of the topmost consumption-based economies in the world. To get people to shop, stores are open long hours, including weekends and most holidays. Business hours vary greatly across the States. Big cities tend to have longer or even 24-hour business openings.

For anything you need during your visit to the USA, there is a Walmart nearby ready to serve you 24 hours a day. Also, when you get hungry, you will find a place nearby to grab a bite to eat. Many of the Mcdonald’s restaurants are open 24 hours.

16. Good shopping

New York City is the number one shopping destination in the world. Madison and Fifth avenues are lined with luxury boutiques and larger department stores. This is the district where you’ll find Barneys New York, Cartier, Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, and Saks Fifth Avenue among dozens of other high-end boutiques and upscale shopping destinations.

Another hot international tourist destination in the U.S. is the Mall of America in Minnesota. Approximately 3 million visitors per year come to the Mall from international destinations and the number is steadily growing.

Most noteworthy, you do not have to travel to these top destinations to find a good deal. You can get inexpensive goods anywhere across the country. Here is an interesting finding:

“British shoppers pay more than twice as much for the same goods as Americans, a Sunday Mirror probe found. The savings are so great that families could do their shopping Stateside and save enough cash to cover most of the flights.” Read more here.

17. Credit cards are widely accepted

When coming to the USA, certainly bring your plastic! In America, you need very little cash. Cards are accepted everywhere. There is no minimum to charge.

You can buy a bagel at the drive-through window and use a credit card to pay $1.50 for it and just drive away. You will only need cash for hotel tipping or similar services. In most restaurants, you can put a tip on your credit card.

18. Pickpocketing is almost non-existent

Pickpocketing is a major problem in many tourist areas around the world so imagine traveling without constantly watching your purse. I am not encouraging to completely lower your guard but in America, this crime almost ran out of style. Why?

Possibly because people do not carry lots of cash and credit cards can easily be stopped with one phone call if they get stolen. For thieves, it is just too much effort for no gain.

Additionally, and I am talking from the years of experience of living in America, if you leave something behind, someone will quickly grab it not to run away with it but to return it to you. Remember, this is the country where most of us live without fences so many of our belongings are out to take, like patio furniture, barbecue, and potted plants.

In America, parcels are left on our steps and stay untouched until the owner takes them inside. In my eyes, this is something about America worth to brag about. (This paragraph does not apply to American large cities).

19. Cheap gas

The United States has the fourth-highest gasoline affordability rating on the globe (that is, one gallon of gas costs only a tiny fraction of our average daily income). Visitors can enjoy those low prices too and hit the road to explore the land without breaking their budget.

20. Large comfortable cars

Furthermore, if you come to visit the USA, you can ride in comfort. Americans like large cars so there are plenty of those to rent. If you reserve a smaller car, you can always ask for a free upgrade. Chances are, your wish may be granted.

21. American open roads

Certainly, America is made for road trips. It has a very good system of streets and highways. The huge Interstate highway system includes modern limited-access expressways (also called freeways) throughout the country.

Furthermore, even secondary roads are a good way to travel to see a more typical American lifestyle. With the exception of Boston, lower Manhattan, and other cities founded in the Colonial era, American towns are characterized by straight, broad avenues and are relatively easy to navigate.

22. Good hotels for every budget and taste

Another good reason to visit America? A good accommodation base is certainly one of them. From historic hotels to charming resorts and luxury hotels in the city, the lodging choices across America can satisfy all types of visitors. Finding a good hotel is easy.

They are strategically located near major attractions or off the highway for those just passing by. Most of them offer very good value. I do not know of any other country where you can sleep 4 adults in one room with two queen beds. Anywhere in Europe, for that many people, you will need two rooms for sure,

23. American people

Finally, and without a doubt, the American people are friendly. How do I know? Because I live among them for over 30 years. I could never imagine when I was leaving Poland that I could assimilate so easily in any country in the world. America proved me wrong. This is my home.
